Replacement

Replacement occurs when experiments involving live animals (animals comprised by the Danish Animal Protection Act) are replaced with experiments that do not use whole, living vertebrates.

Replacement could therefore entail experiments using:

  • Cells or isolated organs
  • Dead vertebrates
  • Invertebrates (except for cephalopods), plants or microorganisms
  • Synthetic or electronic materials and
  • Human volunteers
