Tasks of the Danish 3R-Center Are Being Scaled Down

The savings will be carried out through discontinuation of tasks, staff layoffs, and ongoing efficiency measures. Unfortunately, this means that the activities of the Danish 3R-Center will be scaled down, and the 3R-Center’s board will henceforth function solely as the national committee (the Committee for Laboratory Animals and Alternatives).
This specifically means that a number of tasks under the Danish 3R-Center will be discontinued – including the annual 3R Symposium, dissemination of news via the website, newsletters, etc. Public funding will continue to be allocated to research, knowledge building, and knowledge dissemination within the 3Rs. A detailed model for how these funds will be distributed will be developed. It also means that tasks under the national committee will continue – for example, the Annual Meeting of the Animal Welfare Bodies.
The Danish 3R-Center deeply regrets this situation. We are certain that many of you have benefitted from the center’s work, and we know that the 3R Symposium has been a much‑anticipated annual event, offering opportunities to network and exchange ideas – all for the sake of laboratory animals.
The Danish 3R-Center would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the center – including our stakeholders (Animal Protection Denmark, DOSO, Lundbeck, and Novo Nordisk) – as well as all of you who have actively contributed to the debate through participation, presentations, and posters at the symposium.
We would also like to thank our international partners in the Togeth3R Consortium and EU3Rnet – two collaborative networks that the 3R-Center has greatly valued being part of. Through these networks, we have gathered up‑to‑date knowledge on laboratory animals and alternatives, which we have shared with you via our website and webinars.
The changes will take effect at the end of 2025.
Kind regards,
The Danish 3R-Center
